Drive Against Depression (DAD)

Is an Australian registered health promotion charity that promotes mental health and wellbeing through a shared passion for driving, cars and motoring experiences.

The organisation recognises that people experiencing depression, anxiety, loneliness or other mental health challenges can find it difficult to connect with others or seek help. By bringing people together through their common interest in cars and driving, DAD creates welcoming, inclusive and non-judgemental environments where people can build friendships, share experiences and start conversations about their mental health.

Rather than approaching mental health solely through formal health settings, Drive Against Depression uses motoring as a way to encourage social connection, reduce stigma and help people feel more comfortable seeking professional support when needed

Drive Against Depression is built around a simple but powerful idea: a shared passion can bring people together, and meaningful connections can help people take positive steps towards better mental health.

DAD’s activities focus on three key areas:

1.Creating connection through motoring:

Organises social driving events, scenic road trips, car displays and other automotive experiences that bring people together in a relaxed community environment.

2.Encouraging conversations about mental health:

Provides opportunities for people to talk openly about their experiences, hear other people's stories and challenge the stigma associated with depression and mental illness.

3.Connecting people with support:

Promotes mental health education and helps community members find appropriate professional services and ongoing support through its Mental Wellness Network and other referral resources.

These activities are designed to help people reconnect with others, feel less isolated and take steps towards improving their wellbeing. DAD is a community-based mental health charity
